Andrew Garfield Talks Amazing Spider-Man
Andrew Garfield recently spoke about his role as the lead in The Amazing Spider-Man. Check out the highlights:
On what aspect of the character he identified with: "I have tried to explore Peter Parker as an orphan. Orphans, I feel, are the strongest human beings on the planet. The amount of things they have to deal with in their lives, is amazing. I have tried to capture how Peter copes with the feelings of being an underdog, his confusions and his self-doubt. This, I hope, has brought, a certain empathy and sensitivity to his character that explains how it helps him become the hero that he eventually turns out to be."
On whether there are any iconic screen moments: "Well yes, there is the first kiss between Peter and his love interest, Gwen Stacy."
On whether the kiss was as hard to do as the stunts: "Well, I got to practise for that - although on my own, I must add (laughs). I practised kissing on my hand, arms and in the mirror. I was just hoping I'll remember how to kiss when the moment comes and not fumble."

Daniel Radcliffe Not Surprised By Harry Potter Oscar Snub
Daniel Radcliffe says he's not surprised that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 didn't get nominated for Best Picture at this year's Oscars. He said: "I didn't expect it to be nominated for Best Picture, and no, it doesn't faze us. Just because we've been around for a long time, and made a lot of movies, I don't think when you come to the end of that series anyone's obligated to say you're best picture. Obviously it would have been lovely, but I don't think it's something we're going to be losing sleep over." He also talked about award ceremonies in general, adding: "We love to pat ourselves on the back in this industry, and we like to tell ourselves how well we've done and how amazing we are. It's all very self-congratulatory."

The found footage-style superhero film overperformed to bring in $22 million, well above the mid-teens expectations, to take the crown. The film opened in 2,907 theaters for a $7,568 average and is looking like it will be a very profitable film for Fox, who spent $12 million on the production budget.
Close behind and also overperforming was the period horror film The Woman in Black. Daniel Radcliffe's first post-Harry Potter film was also expected to hit the mid-teens but came in at $21 million, averaging $7,356 from 2,855 theaters. The film had a budget of $13 million.
Liam Neeson's The Grey fell two spots to #3 in its second week, bringing in $9.5 million. That gave the action-thriller a 52% drop, about in line with the average for its genre. It has a total domestic gross of $34.8 million in two weeks from a budget of $20 million.

Underworld Awakening fell three spots to #5 with $5.6 million. The fourth film in the action-horror franchise has a three-week total of $54.4 million domestically and $94.4 million worldwide on a $70 million budget. It's the second-highest domestically-grossing film of the franchise, behind only Underworld Evolution which did $62.3 million in 2006.
One for the Money fell three spots to #6 with $5.3 million. The Katherine Heigl action-comedy dropped 55% in its second weekend, high for the genre. Its two-week total is $19.7 million from a $40 million budget.

Sam Worthington's Man on a Ledge fell four spots to #9 with $4.5 million. The film had a decent second-weekend drop of 44% but will struggle to make back its budget, with a two-week total of $14.7 million from a $42 million budget.
Tom Hanks and Sandra Bullock's Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close fell four spots to #10 in its seventh weekend. The film grossed $3.9 million to hit a total of $26.7 million.
The overall box office tally was $116.1 million, up an impressive 33% from the $87.3 million grossed the same time last year when The Roommate opened at #1 with a $15.0 million opening weekend.
